Ostranine

(2015)

In college, I once attempted to do a whole body of work based on one leaf. It didn't work out like I'd hoped and I pivoted to something else that semester. After I graduated, I inherited a monstera plant that eventually lost one of its leaves, and brought me back to that idea.

I photographed the entire series over the course of a few hours one evening at sunset with this single leaf as the subject. I eventually named the series of 30 photos Ostranenie, which means "to make the familiar appear strange or different".
